MAJOR MATT MASON
COLLECTOR'S TRADING CARD
Copyright 1997--first available April 1997.
The
first Major Matt Mason item sold by Mattel in over 25 years appeared without fanfare in
Mattels Toy Club shops in California and Texas in early 1997. Apparently, the card
was released mainly to protect the company's trademark on the Matt Mason line, after
numerous legal battles with people attempting to use the name.
This card was only available for a limited time in
1997 and sold for $.25 cents each. However, each person was limited to the purchase of
just two cards per visit and this applied to mail orders as well. Due to the limited run
of these cards, they have already sold at auctions for over $30 each!
