At only a mere 16 pages this is perhaps
the most unique of all the Aurora Catalogs. A different overall size and shape, about 3/4
the size of previous and later catalogs. Most of the kits featured here are shown as
quality photos of factory built models! Very cool! The photos alone make this among the
most popular and highly sought after of the Aurora catalogs. And the fact that this
catalog shows absolutely no kits made previous to 1962. Not a single one. And only some of
the kits that were introduced in 1962 are present. Most of the models offered here are new
for 1963 with newer style box designs than those of 1962 and back issues had sported.
There are no aircraft kits post WWI, but there are four new WWI planes. The
first Five Movie Monsters are featured for the first time! Frankenstein, Wolf Man,
Dracula, Mummy and The Creature! All as photographed built-ups! Four Wildlife kits; The
Deer and Black Bear from 1962 and The scarce Big Horn Sheep and Cougar. No"Black
Fury".
Also featured are awesome looking built-up Hot Rods & Sports Cars!
It is evident that Aurora was going through a transition phase as the upcoming
1964 catalog will enlarge back to 32 pages and re-introduce many of the 1962 and earlier
kits in fantastic all new original box art paintings and logos befitting the kit packaging
designs in the 1963 catalog.
