Still maintaining 32 pages filled with
plastic delights, Aurora has added more Commercial Jet Airliners, the World's Largest
Bomber the B-70, More Sports Cars and introduces the Street Rods like the 1927 Ford
"Sad Sack" and the '29 Ford "Wolf Wagon". The XKE Jag. makes it's
debut and a Pontiac is added to the Motorized Custom Cars while more Old Timers enter into
the early Antique Autos line.
The Black Bear with Cubs and the White Tail Deer join the Black Fury horse to
become the first of the new "Wild Life Series". The Knights remain a strong
staple to the figure kits line-up. In fact, other than the wildlife series, the Knights
are the only figure kits that remain since the Confederate Raider, Apache Warrior and U.S.
Air Force Pilot are discontinued.
Special note:
The stock numbers of the Five Knight kits are re-desginated from the original
"K" series K1 thru K5 to the 400 digit series of most all the other figural
kits. K1 Silver Knight becomes kit No. 471, K2 Blue Knight becomes kit no. 472, etc. The
boxes with the 1950's art and 1960's numbering are less common as they were only issued in
1962. In 1963 production of the Knights will cease while the kits undergo a packaging
design change and reappear in a polished new look with all new original box art for 1964!
Also a some molds are modified to add scenic bases for the Camelot series of 1964.
Later in 1962 Aurora will have a mega hit when the Classic Movie Monster,
Frankenstein, comes to life as a plastic assembly kit. Unfortunately the Frankenstein
Monster does not appear in this catalog. However there is a later printing of the 1962
catalog that introduces the Frankenstein Monster on the final page. I'm still trying to
locate that image or the catalog.
